PRIVATE BRADLEY MANNING IS 'CATATONIC'

Held: Bradley Manning is accused of supplying information to Assange Fears are growing for the mental and physical state of the jailed soldier accused of passing information to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Private Bradley Manning, 24, has been kept in solitary confinement at a maximum security prison in Quantico, Virginia, for 254 days and has been described as 'catatonic' by one visitor.
'He has pallid eyes, exhaustion, weak physical state, all characteristics of someone who has been in solitary confinement for months,' another of Manning's friends, David House, told The Times.
The soldier could face a court martial and up to 52 years in jail for supplying Assange with the diplomatic cables but human rights groups have expressed anger about the conditions in which Manning is being kept.
Reports says he is only allowed out of his cell for one hour per day, is prevented from exercising in his cell and forced to endure harsh light throughout the night.
'If the British were principled they would intervene,' said Clive Stafford-Smith, director of Reprieve.
